New US tax law prompts banks to dump US citizens

Der Spiegel reports that European banks are dumping clients with US citizenship due to a new law introduced under the Obama Administration  which requires financial institutions around the world to report on certain client activities. Compliance, say many banks, is  way too expensive to justify continuing to serve US citizens . Details here.

The scent of your wasted tax money

 Your tax dollars at work: Thanks to a $374,000 taxpayer-funded grant, we now know that inhaling lemon or lavender scent doesn't do a lot for our ability to heal a wound. With $666,000 in federal research money, scientists examined whether distant prayer could heal AIDS. It could not. Read it all.

Crony capitalists threaten us all

Bill Frezza at Real Clear Markets makes this compelling argument: 
"...we have let our government grow without bound, extending its tentacles into every aspect of our lives. And we have allowed Crony Capitalism to grow along with it. Meanwhile, Market Capitalism has been battered into a defensive crouch, bogging down the entire economy. Progressives who think they can solve our problems by making government bigger and more powerful only dig the hole deeper, playing into the hands of the Crony Capitalists they claim to hate. 
The only way to restore the balance so we can lift ourselves out of our economic malaise is to harness the anger of both the left and right to slash the power of Crony Capitalists and their enablers in government, while freeing Market Capitalists to do what they do best..."  Read it all.
