The Dung Beetle Award goes to...

The Academy of Dung Beetles' Award is being rolled towards an eighth-grade teacher in the Union Grove school in Wisconsin who assigned a vocabulary crossword puzzle with clues containing “definitions” of liberalism and conservatism.  Conservatism, according to the public school assignment, is “the political belief of preserving traditional moral values by restricting personal freedoms and encouraging prosperity through economic freedom.” More here.

Obaloney's phony budget

"The best thing about President Obama’s budget, is that there is no chance his tax proposals will become law", writes Steve Forbes.  "That’s why the stock market happily shrugged them off.  Calling for yet another round of levies on the so-called rich – otherwise known as capital creators, investors and small business owners – smacks of pure, vindictive class warfare and has nothing to do with creating an environment for vigorous economic growth."
Forbes continues: "Call the Obama budget, France Lite.  Boosting taxes is playing havoc with France’s already anemic economy and undermining the authority of its socialist President.  Ever-rising taxes are also killing the economies of Spain, Italy, Greece and Portugal...
"The President also called for sharply raising the minimum wage, which will only destroy jobs for young people entering the workforce.  Contrary to the President’s rhetoric, all but a handful of minimum wage earners are kids doing part-time jobs or family members supplementing household earnings.  Virtually none are primary earners... "The only sensible thing that the President proposed was cutting the corporate tax rate – now the highest in the developed world – and paying for the rate reduction in a revenue neutral way by reducing the tax code’s complexity" Read it all

If it rains, tax it.

Maryland Democratic Governor Martin O’Malley has instituted a tax on citizens for the amount of rain that falls on their property. The tax, officially known as a "storm water management fee," will be enforced in nine of the state's counties. The state legislature passed it in 2012 supposedly to "raise revenue to clean-up the Chesapeake Bay," according to MarylandReporter.com.

Michelle, you're no Hadiya

Brian Williams let Michelle Obama's Chicago speech on gun control run for a couple of minutes on the NBC evening news. In it she proclaimed “Hadiya Pendleton Was Me”
"No Actually, Michelle, Hidiya wasn’t you." says Tammy Bruce in a scalding response:  "She’s now a dead teenager because of the pit that liberal policies made her town. Gang violence, poverty, no jobs, no hope, no real police protection. Neighborhoods that have been abandoned because there’s no money because no one is working because liberal politicians seem more and more like vampires as they drain cities and towns and finally families of their life blood.  No Michelle, Hadiya wasn’t you. She was a teenager condemned, like so many others, by a political class that doesn’t give a damn, and only sees the average American as a speed-bump on the road to more power and money. Barack Obama's Diary: Bless my soul...

Dear Diary: What a night!  Our Memphis Soul event was a mega success. Lots of  camera shots of me and M.  singing and clapping our  hands, even if I did have to steal a glance at the folks either side to make sure I was  in synch. This was soul man. Soul-searing  music I learnt on the mean streets of   Oahu Jakarta  Chicago. Wherever. I's da man, bro. No music by old white dudes  like Bach and Mozart for me
Meantime, the Toad of Pyongyang is still beating his war drums. I'm hoping my special envoys, Beyonce and Jay-Z will persuade the Cucoms to tell Kim  Jung-Un to back off.  My special envoy to the norks, Dennis Rodman, was not a huge success. I suspect Rodman left Kim feeling  that his package is pathetically inadequate and as a result Kim felt the need to show the world his biggest rocket.I will leave it to my military brass to decide what action to take if Kim does launch missiles. That way I will have others to blame. Worked  for me after Benghazi.

Joke of the Day...

From our Australian correspondent:   Last night I was sitting on the sofa watching TV when I heard my wife's  voice from the kitchen:  'what would you like for dinner, my love, chicken, beef or lamb?'
I said, 'Thank you, I'll have chicken"
She replied, 'You're having soup you fat bastard, I was talking to the cat."

Obama departments pay millions for free information

The Washington Times reports: "Congress’s top auditor said Tuesday that the Commerce Department has been charging other government agencies millions of dollars for reports that the other agencies could just as easily been obtained for free online.  The Government Accountability Office, releasing its third annual report on duplication in the federal  government, said 74 percent of all the reports held by the National Technical Information Service were available elsewhere, usually for free — and often just by a simple Google search."  Read it all.   [Thanks: ECS]

Beware the Gnome of Pyongyang

Former Vice President Dick Cheney told members of House Republican leadership Tuesday to be wary of Kim Jong Un in the escalating Korean situation. Cheney attended a leadership meeting in the office of Speaker John A. Boehner of Ohio before walking to the office of Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy of California to speak with the GOP whip team. He came at the behest of McCarthy, according to aides and members.  Rep. Steve Southerland II, R-Fla., said Cheney warned members not to underestimate the 26-year-old Kim [a.k.a the Gnome of Pyongyang.]

Looney lefties want infertility coverage for homosexuals

"Legislation has been filed in California  that would require group insurance to cover gay and lesbian infertility treatments just as they do heterosexual. AB 460 isn’t limited to a finding of actual infertility. Nor does it require that gays and lesbians have tried to conceive or sire a child using heterosexual means, natural or artificial. Rather–as with heterosexual couples–merely the inability to get pregnant for a year while having active sexual relations is sufficient to demonstrate need for treatment, meaning if the bill becomes law, it would require insurance companies to pay for services such as artificial insemination, surrogacy, etc. for people who are actually fecund. Indeed, since the bill prevents discrimination based on marital or domestic partnership status, theoretically every gay and lesbian in the state could be deemed infertile for purposes of insurance".... A plea for the 2nd Amendment from man who saw tyranny prevail

A man who escaped communist Cuba gave an impassioned defense of the rights of his adopted country saying "only [his] death" will stop him from speaking out about freedom and the Second Amendment,
Testifying in Salem, Oregon, on proposed gun control legislation, Manuel Martinez grew visibly emotional when describing all he has seen.  After describing how "malicious" individuals "masquerading as Democrats" came into power into power in Cuba in 1957, Martinez described how they went to work disarming the citizenry and established a bloody regime.   Pointing at the lawmakers arguing for stricter gun control, Martinez said:  "I've been through it.  I've been there.  You people don't know what freedom is because you never lost it!  You haven't been tortured.  You haven't been [sic] assassinations.  You haven't been -- mothers begging for the life of their son not to be killed because the only reason is they want is to be free.  And they killed the mothers, and they killed the son."  More.    [Thanks: BJS]

Bam parties on

Tonight’s special White House “celebration” of Memphis soul music marks the tenth time President and Mrs. Obama have been treated to an exclusive East Room “command performance” of American music featuring major stars, past and present.   While the performances are televised and celebrate the nation’s culture, some may wonder whether during an era of soaring deficits it is wise to stage what are also in effect private parties for the first couple.
