Dear Diary:  I headed out this morning, in a motorcade, to the magnificent Grande Oaks Golf Club in Fort Lauderdale, half an hour  from the hotel  where I had stayed in a vast Presidential suite in Miami. I had, of course, asked Gramma Robinson to check my horoscope before I set out. It seems that Mercury speeds up for the next 10 weeks. This shows a quickening of the ability to coordinate, put things together, understand the whole and the parts and the process. It is now stationary at 3 Scorpio, affecting that area in my life for three months to come. That sounds like I will have an unfair advantage over my golf buddies -- just what I like. At the fourth hole I made my usual call to the Pentagon to approve a Predator kill  and thus unnerve my golf buddies. But, strangely, the military say they have no drones aloft at this point. But enough about me.

Lt. Steven Tripp  of the Nevada police says Jessie Mulligan tried to text a friend on Friday to say she had some drugs to sell, but she messed up the number and ended up texting a narcotics detective.
After a few texts back and forth, detectives say they arranged a meeting, where they arrested her.

Germans lose trust in the USA

The NSA spying scandals have taken a toll on Germans' opinion of the USA, according to a new survey. Mistrust in the United States has skyrocketed, and more Germans are viewing whistleblower Edward Snowden as a hero.  A string of NSA spying scandals has sent Germans' trust in the United States plummeting, with only a third saying they view their longtime ally as a trustworthy partner, a recent opinion poll has found.
The survey, commissioned by public broadcaster ARD and daily newspaper Die Welt, found that only 35 percent of Germans considered the US government trustworthy -- numbers not seen since the times of highly unpopular President George W. Bush. Forty-three percent said they were satisfied with the work of US President Barack Obama. Just a year ago, he enjoyed the backing of 75 percent of Germans.
The results appear to be a strong indictment of the pervasive US surveillance programs uncovered through classified documents leaked by former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden -- whom 60 percent of respondents consider a hero. Despite that strong majority support, Germans were evenly split over the question of whether their country should offer Snowden asylum, with 46 percent saying "yes" and 48 percent saying "no."  More here     [BJS]

Dim Crims: thief leaves job application

 A Chicago man has been accused of stealing merchandise from a sporting goods store where he had just applied for a job. Lawrence C. Briggs, 18, entered the Sports Page store on Oct. 30 and turned in a job application.  Police say Briggs then took off with a T-shirt, a hooded jacket and a baseball cap. The items were estimated to cost about $150.  Police and store management later reviewed security footage. Briggs was called back for a job interview Friday and arrested.
The newspaper reports Briggs admitted to stealing the items. He has been charged with fifth-degree theft and interference with official acts for allegedly refusing to be handcuffed.

New hope for the dead

A man in Brazil was pulled from a grave alive after a woman saw his hand surging through the ground. Police in Sao Paulo believe the man ended up in the grave after getting into a fight in another location. They speculate that his attackers took him to the cemetery while he was passed out after a brutal beating, tossed him in an empty grave, and covered him in dirt. He is now recovering in a local hospital. More   [BJS]

O-Care: It's about to get even worse

 ObamaCare’s health insurance exchanges are unraveling and it’s about to get worse. Once the calendar flips to 2014, ObamaCare intends to expand Medicaid—the joint federal-state health insurance program for low-income Americans—to an additional 8.7 million people. But Medicaid isn’t working for the 62 million Americans it currently covers.  Taxpayers are struggling to shoulder the program’s $400-billion-plus price tag. Beneficiaries, meanwhile, are finding that doctors won’t accept their coverage. Expanding the program will only worsen both problems.   More here.   [BJS]

Barack Obama's Diary: Second opinion

Dear Diary:   Yesterday I made an oblique apology to people negatively affected by ObamaCare and the response was not as positive as I had hoped. People keep going back to my assurance that if they like their health plan they can keep their health  plan.  Any idiot knows that they have to make allowance for the president's word not exactly matching reality.  Michelle's mother likes to follow her horoscope and strangely I'm beginning to think there might be  something to it. I consulted my horoscope for today: "Chart-ruler Venus; Hour of Mercury (planet of oaths) with Mercury directly opposing  your natal Mercury in retrograde--with this transit's potential for conflicting opinions, disagreements."  Well, there you go: conflicting opinions and disagreements --that's the story of my life. I am now going out onto the South lawn  with a fat joint of Blueberry Yum Yum to get a second opinion on the true nature of existence. But enough about me.

ObamaDeath

A sad story from the Obamacare debacle:.  A South Carolina man was diagnosed with cancer and his old insurance was providing him with the doctors and treatment he needed, but that insurance has been cancelled because of Obamacare regulations.  His new options are so expensive that he’s decided to give up  and “let nature take its course” rather than put his family under the financial strain of paying for the new insurance that Obamacare requires.

Obama says 'sorry' to insurance victims

 President Barack Obama said Thursday he was "sorry" for Americans who had insurance plans cancelled because of his health care law, even though he had promised they would not.
"I am sorry that they are finding themselves in this situation based on assurances they got from me," Obama told NBC News.  Obama's mea culpa came amid a controversy over his repeated assurances that if Americans liked their existing health insurance plans, they could keep it under his signature health care reform.   Hundreds of thousands of Americans have since received notices from their health insurance companies that their policies will be cancelled.
"We've got to work hard to make sure that they know we hear them and we are going to do everything we can to deal with folks who find themselves in a tough position as a consequence of this."  [BJS]    [ECS]

Dim Crims: Robbers stranded as getaway car is stolen

Two alleged robbers were left high and dry Thursday when a Burger King employee hid their getaway car.  Police in Stockton, Calif., say Jeremy Lovitt, 23, and Gabriel Gonzales, 19, held up the fast food restaurant at gunpoint. While the manager and another employee handed over the money, a third employee says he exited the restaurant through the back and noticed that there was a car with the engine running in the parking lot.  The employee figured the vehicle was the suspects' getaway car, so he drove it around the corner and hid it.  When the two men ran out of the Burger King, they found their car was gone and attempted to flee, but cops quickly caught them.  They were arrested and taken to the San Joaquin County Jail.      [BJS]

11/7/13:  Patient is still showing signs of distress at the botched launch of ObamaCare. His massive ego prevents him from grasping the concept of responsibility lying with the guy at the top. "Relax... If you want your paranoia, you can keep your paranoia," I told him. He looked at me in despair: "Even you, doctor, see me as a figure of fun."  I shook my head: "No, what I see is  a man who won't stop stoking his paranoia by consuming large quantities of a potent hybrid marijuana: Blueberry Yum Yum, I believe it's called. You gotta man-up and face your woes without that crutch, and without even plain old ditch weed, or choom as you used to call it."
